Titanic Reports

One of our small group reading groups read the book White Star: A Dog on the Titanic
by Marty Crisp.  We really enjoyed reading this historical fiction book, and learned a lot of facts about the voyage.  Here we are reporting about the Titanic...

Great job reporting, everyone!

Sock Puppet Videos

During small group reading, one group read the book The Mysterious Ms. Martin.
In this realistic fiction book, Hao and Lan are convinced their neighbor Ms. Martin is up to something suspicious. While reading this book, we compared and contrasted the main characters, and we considered which on we would prefer to have as a friend.
We made a "sock puppet" video to explain who we would want to be friends with and why. (Please keep in mind this was our first time using this app - it may not be perfect)

During small group reading, one group read the book The Amazing Adventures of Ordinary Girl.
In this story, the main character, June, doesn't fit in at school. The other kids call her June the Spoon. They think she's weird. One day June secretly decides to be ordinary. Along the way June makes a new friend, Robyn.
We made a "sock puppet" video giving June advice on how to make friends.

During small group reading, one group read the book The Marathon.
In this story, Maya's brother Nate is training to run a race.  Maya reads to learn about what his body needs in order to do his best.
We made a "sock puppet" video to share some tips Maya had to help Nate win his race.

Subtraction Algorithms (Methods)

The Everyday Math website has very helpful "Algorithm Animations" (aka videos teaching how to do the methods).

Even though the online textbook has excellent videos, we decided to make our own.
(It's more fun to hear our own voices!)

Plus we are really getting good at subtraction if we can teach you how to do it!

SO, PLEASE WATCH OUR LATEST LESSONS....

Go Cardinals!

Cardinal nation in room 215

Our crazy personalities will come out if they win tonight!

Perseverance

In the common core state standards, one of our math practice standards is "perseverance."
We had a "problem solving day" earlier this week to practice perseverance.

Even when a task may be hard and challenging, we are going to keep trying!

Did you catch Mrs. Huffman's class on channel 5 last night?
