Pajama Day

Today we put drugs to sleep - Pajama Day for Red Ribbon Week!
It was so comfy wearing our PJs to school!
Girls in pajamas
boys in pajamas

Today was an excellent day!
We pulled another "Pride" letter for finishing our homework.
So we are having a gum day in the classroom (Bring gum from home and you can chew it all day long!)

We ALSO emptied our marble jar!
We voted to have a "game day" tomorrow.
During social studies/science classtime, we will pull out games and play them instead of doing our textbook lesson.  Miss Liefer has Connect Four, Battleship, Outburst, Apples to Apples, and much more.  Students can also bring in games (with parent permission) from home - board games or electronic games are okay (YOU are responsible for them)

Tomorrow we will ALSO have our Halloween Party at the end of the day.
Students can bring in a snack and drink to enjoy.  Miss Liefer has some games/activities planned for us to celebrate!  Don't forget to wear your costume tomorrow too!

Congratulations to our Above and Beyond winners this month!

Costume Reminder

This is the 1st year Gardner Elementary is allowing students to dress up for Halloween.  Because Halloween falls during Red Ribbon Week this year, Thursday, October 31st, the district theme  is "Scare Away Drugs" .  The saying may be misleading, we are NOT encouraging your child to have a scary costume...Dorthy, Alice, and Batman are welcomed and encouraged!
We do need to remember that this is still an academic school day so we are asking for your help in assisting your child to follow our costume guidelines listed below.  At Gardner, we have three expectations, Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe.  We expect these three rules to be followed when choosing and wearing costumes that day.
If any of the guidelines below are not followed, parents will be called and the possibility of Gardner Elementary students dressing up in the future will be at risk.
We appreciate your help making this a memorable day for your child,

COSTUME GUIDELINES
*Students should come to school in their costume.
*Costumes must be bathroom friendly & able to be worn all day without interfering with instruction.
*No face painting of any kind (not even whiskers painted on to be a cat, etc.).
No face masks of any kind...the entire face must be visible.
No props or weapons of any kind.  We do not want anyone getting injured or a prop being lost or broken.
*No blood, guts, etc.
*Appropriate shoes must be worn for PE and recess
-If you are wondering if your child's costume will violate any of the above guidelines, it will be best for them not to wear it.

Zoo Field Trip is Friday!

Remember we are going no matter what the weather.  So dress in layers!

Be at school at 8 AM with your lunch, drink, and best behavior!  We want to show everyone that we are wonderful students from Gardner Elementary School.

What a GREAT way to celebrate the day after Halloween and conclude our science study of animal adaptations!

I really enjoy going to the zoo in the fall.
It fits perfectly with what we've been studying.
The trees are beautiful and the animals are more active.

Check out some photos and videos from previous zoo field trips to get a sneak peek at all the cool things we will do at the zoo!

Hat Day

Today's activity for Red Ribbon Week was cap/hat day!

Don't forget tomorrow is Pajama Day!

Rally for Bulldog Improvement (RBI)

A goal is something big that you want to accomplish.  It is something important to YOU.  It might be learning something new, stopping bad habits, or getting better at doing something that is hard for you to do.  A goal is something that is not always easy to reach, but it can be accomplished by making a plan and following steps to reach it.
Ice Cream treats on Friday to kick off RBI this schoolyear

This week the fourth and fifth graders at Gardner Elementary will set two goals for yourself.  One of the goals should be related to school.  The second goal can be another school related goal or a personal goal.  After they write their goals, we will think of steps they can take to reach each one.  Remember that BIG goals may take awhile to accomplish, and may take several steps.

Miss Liefer will keep a copy of the goals.  We will review them periodically and keep track of how we are doing.

To earn RBI, we compare grade point averages.  We will add up your total percentage points for each subject and divide by four since there are four subjects.  In other words, the formula to earn RBI is
First Quarter Grades:

Literacy_____ + Math_____ + S. S._____ + Science_____ =

Total Percentage Points- First Quarter:________

If you raise your total percentage points by 1 point each quarter, you will be rewarded!  (“A” students need to maintain their “A” average).
Let's all Rally for Bulldog Improvement!  Let's get an RBI!

A Dictionary/Thesaurus of my very own!

Thank you so much to Miss Liefer's Great Uncle Joe in Oklahoma for sending us an incredible gift.  As part of the "Dictionary Project" each student received his/her own copy of Webster's Dictionary/Thesaurus from the Cross Timbers Rotary Club of Norman, Oklahoma.

A dictionary is an essential tool and powerful resource in education.
We really appreciate your generosity and have already started using it in our lessons.
